Thoughtful growing

Build around the plants, not just the glass.

  • Match the environment

Open and enclosed terrariums create different growing conditions.

  • Find the moisture balance

Consider humidity and root-zone moisture as separate parts of plant care.

  • Give growth enough light

Glass alone does not provide the light a plant needs to grow.

Find your terrarium’s growing balance.

Humidity, light and airflow work together. Choose plants that share a suitable environment.

How do I choose plants for an enclosed terrarium?

Choose species suited to sustained humidity and the light available in your setup. Consider mature size and growth rate too. A humid enclosure is not suitable for every tropical plant.

Does a terrarium still need airflow?

Air movement and ventilation depend on the enclosure and its plants. Observe condensation, plant health and the growing mix, and adjust the setup when conditions stay too wet or stagnant.

How do I judge moisture inside the terrarium?

Look beyond condensation on the glass. Check the growing layer and plants themselves, and add water in small amounts when the setup needs it. Avoid treating every enclosure as if it follows the same watering schedule.
